Matthias Muche
Die viel zitierten "Grenzbereiche" ziehen sich wie ein roter Faden durch die Aktivitäten des in Köln lebenden Posaunisten und Komponisten Matthias Muche, der in seiner Musik alle Formen von Klangerweiterung des Instruments verwendet, die zeitweise wie elektronische Musik klingt, dann wieder Rhythmische und Melodische Idiome aus dem Jazz aufgreift und weiterspinnt. Er studierte Posaune in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Köln und absolvierte ein Postgraduierten Studium für audiovisuelle Medien an der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln.
Der Fokus seiner Arbeit liegt neben improvisierter Musik auf interdisziplinären Projekten, in denen er ganz variierende Spielaufbauten verwendet; mit Zuspielern von Sprache und Soundscapes über externe Schalltrichter, interaktive Computergrafiken oder ganz pur die Posaune.
Muche ist in über 50 Ländern aufgetreten und erhält 2021 den WDR-Jazzpreis in der Kategorie Improvisation. 2022 wurden die CD-Produktionen seiner Ensembles BONECRUSHER & T.ON für den Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik nominiert. Emily Pothast schreibt in THE WIRE: “Like Vinko Globokar and Stuart Dempster before him, German composer-trombonist Matthias Muche explores this often-overlooked instrument’s potential to extend the sonic possibilities of the human body.”
The much-cited "border areas" run like a thread through the activities of the Cologne-based trombonist and composer Matthias Muche, who uses all forms of sound expansion of the instrument in his music, which at times sounds like electronic music, then takes up rhythmic and melodic idioms from jazz and spins them further. He studied trombone in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Cologne and completed postgraduate studies in audiovisual media at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne.
In addition to improvised music, the focus of his work is on interdisciplinary projects in which he uses completely varied playing setups; with feeds ranging from speech and soundscapes to external sound funnels, interactive computer graphics or purely the trombone.
Muche has performed in over 50 countries and will receive the 2021 WDR Jazz Prize in the improvisation category. In 2022, the CD productions of his ensembles BONECRUSHER & T.ON were nominated for the German Record Critics' Award.
